Business Mandarin Relocation Training
Relocating in a Chinese speaking country
can be an exciting, mind-broadening and
highly rewarding experience, if the expatriated
staff is properly prepared. Conversely,
relocating a staff without appropriate training
can cause a lot of difficulties in adapting
to the foreign culture, anxiety, employment
tension, and eventually leading to the failure
of assignments abroad.
Business
Mandarin's Cross-cultural program provides
country or region-specific information about
a target culture. Two of our training courses-"Living
and Working In..." and "On Your
Re-entry..." are designed for individuals
and families who are:
Outbound
- expatriates relocating out from their
home country
Inbound
- staff relocating into a new host country
Returning - repatriates relocating back
to their original home country
Living
and Working In...
The two-day program is targeted for participants
to learn to cope with daily life, and to
practice effective business protocol and
communications in the new environment. Prior
to the program, participants are required
to complete a detailed questionnaire, which
helps our trainers to access and design
the program that meets the individual's
need and expectations.
The
first half of this course, "Living
in...", focuses on the adjustment and
adaptation aspects. It describes a culture's
background, people's attitudes and behaviors,
and their ways of living. Topics in this
one-day session includes:
daily
life in the new country
adjusting
to the new environment
how
to "fit-in"
making friends, overcoming language barriers
health,
medical and safety information
routine survival tips such as getting a
driver's license, opening bank accounts,
finding schools
important historical, political, geographic
resource facts
cultural values, comparisons and traditions
social structures, religion and education
special
children's and spousal career components
available
The
second-day, "Working In...", helps
the employee to understand and develop strategies
to meet challenges in the new working environment.
Spouses are also suitable for attending
the course since they are also likely to
develop own career abroad, and that the
sharing of this information can help to
build mutual support in the new home. At
this session, participants will learn about:
business
management and decision making
techniques for successful negotiation
verbal and non-verbal communication techniques
important
business etiquette and protocol
differences
between their own work style as compared
to those of the target culture
Topic areas and duration in the "Living
and Working In..." program can be expanded
or adjusted according to the client's specific
needs.
As
a follow-up and to further assist families
moving abroad, the Business Mandarin Cross-Cultural
program conducts surveys for every graduate
six months, nine months and one-year after
they relocate. Recommendations for further
interventions will be made with references
from the Business Mandarin International
resource network. Our objective is to make
the relocation process as smooth as possible.
